This Referral Site will assist you in locating qualified psychologists in your area. Here you can find information on the psychologist's office locations, professional licenses held and areas of practice.  Once you used our search form, call and interview several over the phone to determine which one is the best match for you before making an appointment.

When you meet with the psychologist you have chosen, an interactive process will begin to identify and define the problem you are experiencing and the situation in which it arises.  Psychologists are expected to provide a confidential, safe environment for you or your family to work through the issues necessary to solve the problem.

Psychologists are highly trained professionals who focus on human behavior, mental health assessment, diagnosis and treatment, and behavior change. Psychologists are trained to apply scientifically validated procedures to help people change their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. After graduation from college, psychologists spend an average of 7 years in graduate education training and research before receiving a doctoral degree. As part of their professional training they must complete a supervised clinical internship in a hospital or organized health setting and at least 1 year of post-doctoral supervised experience before they can practice independently in any health care arena.  It's this combination of doctoral-level training and clinical internship that distinguishes psychologists from many other mental health care providers.

Psychologists must be licensed by the state or jurisdiction in which they practice. Licensure laws are intended to protect the public by limiting licensure to those persons qualified to practice psychology as defined by state law. In Georgia, renewal of this license requires continuing education. Members of the Georgia Psychological Association (GPA) are also expected to adhere to a code of professional ethics adopted by the American Psychological Association.

Note: Initially, we recommend NOT putting a city in the search because it will only pull the exact match for the city. However, if your initial search is too broad, then search for the particular city you are located in or the nearest major city. If you cannot find anyone on this list in your area, please call us at (404) 634-6272 and we may be able to find a referral for you within 2 business days.
