Utilizing a didactic and interactive format, this dynamic workshop will address the impact of culture and ethnicity on psychopharmacological drug response. Ethnic and cultural factors including socioeconomic realities, ethnic variations in drug metabolism, cultural beliefs about medications and others will be discussed. A framework for the Psychologists’ role in assisting the client and physician in managing these factors will be introduced.

CE Hours: 3 (Psychopharmacology)

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe biological variables that affect the action of medications commonly used for psychiatric disorders.
  2. Describe sociocultural variables that alter the effectiveness of medications commonly used for psychiatric disorders.
  3. Describe specific techniques in engagement and motivational enhancement to improve the effectiveness of medications commonly used for psychiatric disorders.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Harrison is the Chief Medical Officer for Anka Behavioral Health Inc. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology with Spanish and Chemistry minors at Howard University, completed medical school at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and General Psychiatry Residency at Emory University. She is Board-Certified in both Adult General Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. Currently, she holds adjunct faculty appointments in both the Nell Hodgson Emory School of Nursing and Morehouse School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. She is also a wife and mother to two young sons.

Cancellation Policy:
Registrants must cancel through Amy Dietrich only via email or phone (contacting other staff members/leadership does not guarantee your cancellation.) No faxes or mail cancellations will be accepted.
Cancellation Fee: $35
Refunds will not be given for cancellations within five (5) business days prior to the workshop date.
