Workshop Title: Marijuana: Review of Medical Research and What Psychologists Need to Know About Legalization in GA

Workshop Description: 

This presentation will provide information on marijuana so that clinicians can respond accurately to clients who are treatment resistant because of information on marijuana from outside sources. The workshop will be in two parts. The first part will review scientific evidence about the harmful effects of cannabis as well as current evidence about the therapeutic uses of marijuana derivatives. The second part will review the current efforts to legalize marijuana in Georgia.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will be able to list 3 adverse health consequences of using marijuana.
  2. Participants will be able to list 3 actual or potential medical benefits of products derived from marijuana.
  3. Participants will be able to list 2 legislative initiatives regarding possession and sale of marijuana which have been passed or are under consideration by the Georgia legislature.

      About the Presenter:

      Robert Margolis has presented over 50 workshops at professional/scientific meetings on addiction. He has authored several book chapters and one book on addiction, Treating Patients with Alcohol and Other Drug Dependence. He served as member of the APA Experts Working Group on Addictions from 1987 to 2007.

      Cancellation Policy:
      All cancellations must be submitted in writing to Staci Bratcher via email (stacibratcher@gapsychology.org). A $35 cancellation fee will be charged for any cancellations prior to February 16, 2018. No refunds will be given after February 16, 2018.
