Workshop Description:

In this workshop, effective methods of assessing risk for suicide will be discussed. Specifically, keeping patients safe post-discharge and as outpatients by utilizing Stanley and Brown’s (2008) Safety Plan will be integrated into a comprehensive risk assessment and management approach. Examples from Dr. Lamis’  clinical work with primarily low-income African Americans at Grady Hospital will be incorporated.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to describe the most effective suicide assessment strategies supported by empirical research.

  2. Participants will be able to demonstrate how to use and implement a suicide safety plan.

  3. Participants will be able to discuss cultural, gender, and other individual differences in suicide risk and apply this knowledge to effective suicide assessment skills.

      About the Presenter:

      Dr. Lamis has presented on the topic of suicide assessment, intervention, and prevention on many occasions, both nationally and internationally.
