Workshop Title: Empowering Resilience in Seniors through Fostering Creativity and Connection
Workshop Description:
Seniors experience multiple losses as they age that affect mental and physical well-being and challenge resiliency. Depression and social isolation are two factors that put seniors at risk for health problems while connection with others and meaningful activities that foster a positive self-concept are protective factors shown to mitigate these effects. In this workshop, we will explore how expressive therapies, such as action methods from psychodrama, sociometry, and sociodrama, can be used to empower seniors’ resiliency and improve well-being by enhancing personal and social capabilities. And, because these interventions are fun, they can easily be integrated into various community settings.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to describe how expressive therapies such as psychodrama foster creativity and connection and their role in empowering resilience.
-
Participants will be able to demonstrate two action methods from psychodrama and sociometry.
-
Participants will be able to apply these methods to a problem they may encounter in a senior group.
