Addicts often engage in more than one addiction at a time or move from one addiction to another. Those working in the field of weight loss and/or addictions will benefit from this informative presentation describing the facts related to obesity, weight loss, and the realities of food addiction. In addition to leaving with an evidence-based understanding of the disease of obesity (to include information related to obesity demographics by lifestyle, gender, ethnicity and geographic region), participants will add to their knowledge base and practice skills by learning about food/eating addiction and effective counseling approaches to use in the treatment of food addiction.

 Learning Objectives:

  1. By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to identify five contributing factors that result in obesity.

  2. By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to discuss three differences between biological addiction to food and psychological addiction to food.

  3. By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to state three ways in which three different counseling approaches/theories are useful in the treatment of food addiction.
